D-Ticket for students: Summer holidays not valid - Who is affected?
The summer holidays are just around the corner, and for many students in Braunschweig there is an important change to keep in mind: the Deutschlandticket (D-Ticket) for students will not be valid during this time. How regionalheute.de reports, the ticket for students in Braunschweig will be blocked electronically from July 1st and will show the note “invalid” during checks.
July 1st and 2nd, the last two days of school, are the last opportunities to use the ticket throughout the Braunschweig Region Transport Association (VRB). These include the cities of Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg as well as the districts of Gifhorn, Goslar, Helmstedt, Peine and Wolfenbüttel. From July 3rd, use will no longer be possible due to the lockdown.
Important regulations for students
This regulation also applies to the previous collective student season ticket, which was replaced by the D-Ticket. On the last day of school, students cannot travel beyond the VRB area and the ticket is only valid for the way to school. Although the ticket can be used for public transport throughout Germany, special restrictions apply for the summer holidays. Confirmations of this come from the Wolfenbüttel district and the VRB, as well as on inside-digital.de can be read.
After the summer holidays, the D-Ticket will be activated again, provided that students are still entitled to school transport. It is important that the chip card is kept as it is activated via a central system.
Alternative solutions during the summer holidays
However, there is an option for students under 21 for the summer holidays: you can purchase the summer holiday card for 23.70 euros, which is valid from July 3rd to August 13th. This alternative can help to bridge the time without the D-Ticket.
Parents should also make sure that the Germany ticket must be booked at the regular price of 58 euros per calendar month. The ticket is not valid for trips outside the VRB area on the last days of school, and invalid tickets are subject to a fine of 60 euros. It is therefore advisable to pay close attention to the regulations in order to avoid unpleasant surprises.
The D-Ticket must be applied for again for the coming school year 2025/2026, even if you already have a ticket from the previous year. For further information on the application and ticket conditions, it is worth taking a look at the website Braunschweig region transport association.
Having a knack for taking care of ticket matters early could prove very valuable in this case.
