What a special day for Hanover! The official starting signal was given on July 4, 2025Shooting Festival 2025, the largest folk festival in the world. This year, a breath of fresh air is shaping the traditional event, which takes place from July 4th to 13th. The opening, which was celebrated at 8 p.m. in the New Town Hall with the mayor tapping a draft beer, promises an entertaining evening. A celebratory fireworks display at 10:45 p.m. will cap off the opening day.
The shooting festival not only has a long tradition - this year it celebrates almost 500 years of history and attracts over a million visitors to the city every year. With an event area of around 10 hectares, the Schützenplatz offers space for numerous attractions and gastronomic offerings. Rifle club president Paul-Eric Stolle has announced a colorful program and a varied festival site that will combine both traditional and modern elements. New this year are attractions such as the giant swing “Best XXL” with a height of 45 meters and the “Spaßallee”, a running shop with water features.
Unique events for everyone
A highlight of the shooting festival is theRiflemen march out, which takes place on July 6th at 10 a.m. With over 150 clubs and 100 bands, this march is the largest of its kind in the world. Norddeutscher Rundfunk broadcasts this spectacular event live so that fans staying at home can also follow the action. The march is expected to cover an impressive distance of around 10 kilometers, with around 10,000 participants taking part.
The traditional Family Day takes place on July 9th, when up to 50 percent discounts are offered on many attractions. The festival also has a social focus: a new security concept with the motto "Together. Attentive." ensures a safe and pleasant atmosphere for all visitors. Measures such as the “Saferspaces” QR code, a support team and retreat rooms are available to provide support and prevent discrimination. Security actors will be accessible centrally at the Gilde Gate.
Gastronomic highlights and new attractions
The gastronomic diversity is just as impressive: the 15 large restaurants include renowned establishments such as the Herrenhausen brewery and the Ernst-August brewery. A new oneIrish pub beer gardenwith whiskey tastings and live music provides another highlight in the gastronomic offering. The Gaypeople tent offers an entertaining program with live DJs and drag shows, which is very popular with all partygoers.
A total of around 200 spectators were selected to beat the around 500 applications. The Schützenfest offers over 32 rides and running rides, including 11 special children's rides that give young guests a lot of fun. The event represents a perfect mix of tradition and innovation, making the Schützenfest an unforgettable experience for everyone.
