On July 15, 2025, the situation along the Weser is tense: flooding is already forecast in Rinteln. The water levels clearly show which critical limits have been reached and where the first streets could be under water. The Weser, which comes from the rivers Werra and Fulda near Hann. Münden flows through several important cities, including Hameln, Minden, Bremen and Bremerhaven. But today the focus is entirely on Rinteln.
Current flood warnings are in circulation for Lower Saxony, and the water levels speak for themselves. Hartler Straße is already affected by flooding at a level of around 525 cm, while the areas below Woolworth and Brückentor are under water from a level of 486 cm. Fortunately, those responsible have taken many monitoring and prevention measures since 1946, when the highest water level of 738 cm was measured.

The current water levels and their development are crucial. A mean water level (MW) of 219 cm was determined for Rinteln between 1996 and 2006. The mean low water level (MNW) was originally set at 121 cm.
