New café with pottery in Hameln: A creative place is being created!

Something is happening in Hameln: A creative couple has big plans for Bäckerstrasse 49. Sascha and Janina Eckstedt would like to soon open a café with a small pottery workshop. The location currently looks like a construction site with empty walls and painter's foil, but the anticipation is palpable. The two have set their sights on creating a place that not only stands for good coffee, but also for creativity and community.

The inspiration for this project began when Sascha completed an internship in a café in Göttingen during his theology studies. This experience made him want to start his own café. Janina moved to Hameln in 2020, and Sascha followed a year later when the planning for the café really got rolling. The search for a suitable location ultimately led to Bäckerstrasse 49, where the two now want to put their vision into practice.

A space to feel good and create

Sustainability and community are particularly important to the Eckstedts. Her concept combines a cozy coffee cup with handicrafts. Not only coffee and cake specialties are planned, but also pottery courses, which will take place twice a week. Customers with experience can also book season tickets to use the workshop during opening hours. The pottery idea came about during a trip through Germany, where they became aware of homemade pottery in various cafés.

The vision for their café is called “Eden”. The name represents a place where friendliness and honest conversations are encouraged. “We benefit from our belief in a God who conveys love,” says Janina. The two firmly believe that their café will be a space for real exchange and creativity.

Support for implementation

In order to finance their project, the Eckstedts started a crowdfunding campaign. The call for support aims to collect the necessary funds to equip the café and pottery to ensure that the project remains in Hameln in the long term. The goal is to avoid closure after just one year and to create a place where people can feel comfortable and be creative.

The café is scheduled to open at the beginning of November. The ceilings and walls are currently being painted and the rooms are waiting to be furnished. Janina and Sascha are already receiving a lot of positive feedback on social media channels. This project could not only create a new hotspot for the people of Hamelin, but also a place for creative togetherness.
