Closure of Deisterallee: Wine festival causes taxi traffic chaos in Hameln
The wine festival in Hameln is just around the corner and not only brings enjoyment for all wine lovers, but also a strict security concept. This year, part of the Deisterallee, which runs past the Bürgergarten, will remain closed during the festival. This is causing dissatisfaction among local taxi companies, who are now having difficulty picking up their passengers. The only accessible entrance to the Bürgergarten is on Deisterallee, which creates additional challenges for taxi drivers as they are often forced to pick up customers further away. Dewezet reports that taxi operator Ömer Sahin from Silver Car suggests an alternative pickup location at the bus stop at the tourist center. Visitors can also wait for their taxis on the other side of the street, at 164er-Ring. Sahin is concerned that older guests may have difficulty getting to taxis.
The closure of Deisterallee is part of a comprehensive security concept that the city of Hameln has implemented to ensure a safe festival for visitors. This concept was developed not least as a reaction to the tragic events at the city festival in Solingen, which resulted in fatal incidents and injuries. Therefore, the security measures have also been tightened for the upcoming pavement festival in Hamelin. NDR makes it clear that a new general decree prohibits the carrying of weapons in the old town. These include knives, dangerous tools, firearms, fireworks and pepper spray. Random checks are also planned for events such as the wine festival.
Precautions and Reactions
The increased security precautions are not just a local decision, but also follow an overarching framework for major events that has been constantly adapted and updated for several years. Information from the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Interior show that security aspects at large events must be thoroughly examined by municipalities. A structured procedure is intended to increase security and improve the follow-up to events. If there is an increased risk potential, organizers are expected to work closely with the responsible authorities.
These measures are particularly important, especially in light of the recent false reports of alleged attack threats that have been spread online. The police have categorically denied such rumors while clarifying that appropriate security arrangements will be maintained under all circumstances. In addition, Mayor Claudio Griese called on citizens to react calmly and prudently and not to panic.
With all these precautions, Hameln has decided to do everything possible to ensure both the fun of the wine festival and the safety of all visitors. With this in mind, the city administration and organizers are well positioned to celebrate a happy and safe festival.
