Christian Titz becomes coach at Hannover 96 – promotion as a goal!

A new coach for Hannover 96 has been chosen: Christian Titz is moving from 1. FC Magdeburg to the Reds. The transfer poker between the two clubs has been concluded and Titz will sign a contract until 2027 in the coming hours. The transfer fee for the coach is around 500,000 euros, which could rise to a total of 700,000 euros if there is a possible promotion to the Bundesliga. Kicker reports that Titz has achieved great success in Magdeburg and is considered a promotion coach.

Under his leadership, 1. FC Magdeburg scored an average of 1.59 points in 165 games and secured promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2022. Last season the FCM finished in a strong fifth place. Nevertheless, Titz decided to leave the club. Sports director Otmar Schork described his decision as a “blow in the neck” for the club. Loud Transfer market Titz informed the FCM management of his desire to change in May.

Successor and change of coach in Hanover

Titz succeeds André Breitenreiter at Hannover 96, who was released in April after a disappointing 10 points from 13 second division games. Things are not going well for Hannover this season: After their last relegation in 2019, the club describes itself as a “second division dinosaur” and is now contesting its seventh season in the second division. After an unsatisfactory ninth place last season, those responsible in Hanover urgently want promotion. The club has recognized the new coaching change as an opportunity to achieve the longed-for return to the Bundesliga.

The challenge in Hanover will certainly not be easy for Titz, after all, he will immediately be under pressure. With Lars Barlemann, the Reds had an interim solution in the final phase last season, but now need additional stability for the coming season. Feverpitch also reports numerous coaching changes in the 2nd league in the current season - this shows the urgency and the high fluctuation in the second Bundesliga.

New hope for Magdeburg

Markus Fiedler, former U-21 coach at VfB Stuttgart, is expected to succeed Titz at 1. FC Magdeburg. Fiedler has the potential to bring a breath of fresh air into the team after previously leading VfB's U23s from the regional league to the 3rd league and securing relegation there. He also seems to be looking forward to the new challenge. FC Magdeburg has agreed to work with him, but official confirmation is still pending.

With the change of coach at Hannover 96 and the developments in Magdeburg, the 2nd Bundesliga is facing an exciting summer. Both clubs will start performance tests and training next week. It remains to be seen whether Titz will bring the hoped-for turnaround for Hannover 96 and whether Fiedler can lead Magdeburg back on the road to success.
