False start for Düsseldorf: Hannover clearly defeated Fortuna 2-0!
On a disappointing evening, Fortuna Düsseldorf started the new season of the 2nd Bundesliga with a 0-2 defeat against Hannover 96. This defeat follows an already bitter 1:5 defeat against Bielefeld last week and leaves coach Daniel Thioune's team now at the bottom of the table with no points and 1:7 goals. Düsseldorf's formation and strategy, which often lacked creativity on offense, did not bring them the desired success.
Loud Sports show The first bright spot for Fortuna was a header from Jamil Siebert, which narrowly missed the goal. Cedric Itten also had a promising opportunity in the second minute, but missed a cross and was unable to make a decisive impact throughout the game.
The decisive turning point came in the 65th minute when Boris Tomiak was fouled in the penalty area and converted the penalty into an opening goal. Just at the end of the game, Benjamin Källman was able to make it 2-0 in the 87th minute after skillfully converting a pass from Yokota in the penalty area. Despite the late goal, Hannover were braver and more determined throughout the game.
Decline of Fortuna
After this bitter defeat, Düsseldorf coach Thioune had to admit that his team had not done enough for the game. In the second half, after the substitution of Florent Muslija in the 60th minute, there was no improvement for the Düsseldorf team, and the whistles of their own fans could be heard as early as the 80th minute. Another unfortunate situation arose for Fortuna when a goal from Benedikt Pichler was disallowed for offside after a VAR review. Referee Wolfgang Haslberger handed out numerous yellow cards during the game and clearly had a lot to do with it.
For Hannover, the victory is the second in a row under coach Christian Titz, which puts them in the table region of the top teams with a total of six points. The players were extremely clear in their actions, with Jannik Rochelt hitting the post shortly before the decisive goal and could have brought about an earlier preliminary decision. The DFB Cup game against Energie Cottbus awaits Hannover on August 16th, while Düsseldorf will face 1. FC Schweinfurt on August 18th.
Outlook for the next games
The upcoming games promise excitement. Düsseldorf faces a big challenge when they face SC Paderborn in the 2nd Bundesliga on August 23rd. Hannover, on the other hand, welcomes 1. FC Magdeburg for their next match on the same day. The question remains whether Fortuna can wake up from its deep sleep or whether Hannover will continue to consolidate its position in the upper table region.
