On August 16, 2025, a children's vernissage took place at the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover, which enabled little art lovers to be the first to experience the new exhibition. The event was a colorful meeting point for numerous children, parents and even grandparents, who immersed themselves in the world of art together. The NDR reports that the atmosphere in the foyer was lively and inspiring.
The lovingly designed exhibitions by Trevor Yeung and Ian Waelder will be on view until November 16th. Trevor Yeung has created an impressive ecosystem with real plants that will amaze children. In contrast, Ian Waelder addresses memory, inspired by his grandfather's escape from the Nazis. Here the children were able to draw their own memories of their grandparents in a notebook. A little boy named Theo even drew a stalactite cave that he had visited with his grandparents.
Creative experiences for children
A particular highlight of the opening was the workshop room, where an employee named Nine offered colorful tattoos with motifs such as party iguanas, skateboards and glowing mushrooms. These interactive elements stimulate children's creativity and create a playful environment in which art can be experienced up close. Art educator Katja Krause wants to use such offers to awaken children's curiosity and make them enjoy art.
The concept of the children's vernissage is designed to actively involve the little participants in art. It is presented as a special experience that the children are allowed to see the new exhibitions even before the adults. Magnus Resch, an arts economist, described the idea of viewing young children as artists as "brilliant marketing", indicating the Kestner Society's innovative approach. It becomes clear here that the connection between art and young visitors brings a breath of fresh air into culture.
New impulses in Hanover's art scene
Eva Birkenstock, who wants to bring news to Hanover with fresh enthusiasm, finds support in the Kestner Gesellschaft, which is one of the largest German art associations. The aim is to bring international art to Hanover and thus revitalize the local scene. Meanwhile, the Kestner Gesellschaft is also a cultural partner of NDR Kultur, which further promotes collaboration in artistic projects.
