Sparkasse Hannover: Over 1.2 million euros for local projects!

Sparkasse Hannover is causing a stir in the Hanover region with its impressive commitment to the common good. In the first half of 2025, over 1.2 million euros flowed into a total of 240 funded projects, which is around 200,000 euros more than in the same period last year. In the second quarter, 173 initiatives benefited from the desired funding, while in the first quarter, 67 projects already received a piece of the cake Seeing news reported.

Volker Alt, the Sparkasse's CEO, emphasizes the immense importance of the commitment to the region. This can be seen, among other things, in the Sparkasse Sports Fund 2025, which was paid out to 78 clubs with almost 99,000 euros. This is the third highest participation since the fund was founded in 2010 – and the 128 applications submitted are further evidence of the high demand.

Diversity of funding projects

The Sparkasse relies on a wide range of funding projects, including both sports initiatives and cultural events. An example of support is the performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, for which 2,000 euros were provided. TSV Germania Arpke received 2,500 euros for new air track mats, while SV 06 Lehrte received 1,000 euros to expand its darts offering. The local onion festival also benefited with 500 euros, and the rowing club for the Great Outdoors in Sehnde received 850 euros for the repair of rowing boats. With this broad approach, the Sparkasse shows that it has a good knack for meeting the needs of the community.

But that's not all! Sparkasse Hannover supports cultural and social participation in the region with up to three million euros annually for around 600 initiatives, such as Sparkasse Hanover communicates. Using the social media campaign #Give Strength, citizens can also have a say in how the 100,000 euro funding budget is allocated. This type of citizen participation makes the Sparkasse an active part of the community.

Commitment to diversity and inclusion

With its unique approach, the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe sets itself apart from banks. Its origins go back to a commitment to low-income people. Around 350 savings banks offer financial services at fair conditions. Their role as the largest non-governmental sponsor of culture and sport in Germany after the public sector shows how important social participation and integration are to them. In 2024, over 534 million euros found their way into projects aimed at the common good throughout Germany, according to the website Savings Bank highlights.

From Germany's handball teams to cultural festivals - Sparkasse Hannover works tirelessly to ensure that local people can develop their talents and live out their joy in sport and culture. With the support of numerous clubs, such as TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, and exciting projects such as “Sprachzauber”, which promotes language skills in daycare centers, it is clear that this is about more than just money - it is about the future of our community.

Anyone interested in submitting funding applications for 2025 can do so by September 30th. Application forms are available online and thus offer a low-threshold opportunity for non-profit associations to realize their projects.
