Exciting handball events in Germany! Things got hot in the DHB Cup on November 5th, 2025. THW Kiel was able to beat HBW Balingen-Weilstetten 41:36 in the round of 16, while TSV Hannover-Burgdorf was eliminated in a dramatic duel against Bergischer HC. 40:38 after two overtime periods – the fans didn’t forget that in a hurry!
THW Kiel, who entered the tournament as defending champions, initially struggled with a balanced game. After ten minutes it was 6:6, but then the THW was able to pull away a bit and went into the half-time break with a lead of 21:17. In the second half, HBW seemed to come back briefly and got within 28:26. But Kiel remained undeterred and made another push with a 4-0 run that decisively shaped the game. Elias Ellefsen a Skipagötu was the stability factor for his team.
Drama and tragedy in Hanover
TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, on the other hand, experienced a heart-stopping final of a special kind. After being down 12:15 in the first half, the team impressed with a comeback and equalized to 28:28. The fighting spirit didn't let up, but the first overtime ended with 33:33. The result remained exciting in the second extra time until a dramatic decision finally came: Sören Steinhaus finally scored the decisive goal to make it 40:38 for the Bergischer HC, which meant the immediate end for the Hanoverians.
Looking back, the DHB Cup was a real rollercoaster ride for the teams this year. While THW Kiel continues to focus on its title, the players of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf have to digest a bitter defeat.
