Driver on BAB 7: Home with only three tires! Police sound the alarm!
An extraordinary incident occurred on Sunday, December 28, 2025, on the federal highway 7, between the Hannover-Süd motorway triangle and the Drispenstedt junction. At around 8:20 p.m., witnesses reported a vehicle traveling towards Hanover with only three tires. The Hanover motorway police responded promptly to the reports and removed the danger zone, which in this case was caused by a rolling VW Caddy.
The 56-year-old driver from Hanover explained that he had lost the tire cover on the southbound lane. After the unpleasant breakdown, he turned around at the Drispenstedt junction and headed home to get a new tire. But his adventure ended there, the administrative offense procedure was initiated and the police prohibited his vehicle from continuing to drive, as Digital Daily reports.
Tire problems on the highway
Tire wear and damage are not only a nuisance for affected drivers, they also endanger road safety. A similar incident occurred in June 2025, where a truck was overtaking on the BAB 7 shortly before the Derneburg junction while there was no overtaking. Here, too, massive damage was found to the vehicle's tires. The police intervened by having to slow down the flow of traffic and stop the truck. The driver and his boss had to answer for several administrative offenses, reports Presseportal.
In the wake of these experiences, the question arises as to how such incidents can be avoided not only through strict controls, but also through preventive measures. This is where the “Vision Zero” initiative comes into play. One of the central goals of this road safety work is to ensure that there are no deaths or serious injuries in road traffic. The Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) supports numerous projects to increase road safety, including targeted research on this topic, as Mobility Forum reports.
Promote traffic safety
Measures aimed at sustainably improving road safety, such as supporting cyclists and other two-wheeled users, are of great importance in preventing such accidents. The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) carries out several of its own research projects every year. The results and recommendations not only benefit research, but also offer concrete practical help that can make traffic safer.
It is good advice to carry out regular checks on your vehicle. If the tires show signs of wear, you need to act quickly so as not to endanger yourself or other road users. A simple step to increase safety on our roads.
