Shocking accident escape in Bockenem: Toxic pesticide is leaking!
On July 8, 2025, at 9:35 p.m., there was a noticeable traffic accident on the street “Am Krohm” in Bockenem, more precisely in the Volkersheim district. A 64-year-old farmer was traveling with an agricultural trailer consisting of a farm tractor and a special trailer for crop protection products. Suddenly the farmer was faced with an oncoming car that wanted to drive past a parked car. To avoid a collision, he had to swerve to the right, whereupon the trailer collided with a boundary stone and overturned.
The overturned trailer not only fell onto a fence, but also damaged a power distribution box. The tragedy was that containers containing crop protection products broke open and a small amount of fungicide leaked out. Fortunately, the fire brigade was quickly on the scene and prevented any further leakage of the toxic liquid. Salvaging the trailer proved to be particularly difficult, so a recovery crane had to be requested. Volunteer fire departments from Volkersheim, Schlewecke, Bockenem and Mahlum as well as environmental and hazardous goods teams were deployed.
Unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident
To make matters worse, the driver of the car, a dark-clothed driver in a VW Golf, left the scene of the accident without permission. This represents a clear violation of Section 142 of the Criminal Code, which regulates unauthorized removal from the scene of an accident. This regulation aims to ensure that accidents are investigated and to protect the private interests of those involved. The person involved in the accident must remain at the scene of the accident to enable investigations to be made. The incident has also resulted in criminal proceedings for this violation. The behavior of the car driver is not only legally problematic, but also morally questionable. After all, the damage could have been much greater. This is not the first incident of this kind in the region. For example, a similar case was recently reported in Grünstadt, in which a driver also endangered a tractor while overtaking and then simply walked away from the scene of the accident, leaving a trace of oil there too.
