Emma Kremer: The young queen of the Heath Blossom Festival delights the crowd!

On August 24, 2025, the new heather queen was crowned during the traditional heather blossom festival in Amelinghausen: 21-year-old Emma Kremer is the 75th bearer of the crown and replaces the previous queen, 25-year-old Nele Rörup. Kremer, a law student, prevailed in an exciting competition against five other candidates and was carried away by the emotional wave afterwards - she cried with joy at her unexpected victory. In the coming months she will attend numerous representation appointments and represent the municipality, the district and the Lüneburg Heath region.

This year's festival, which took place from August 16th to 24th, attracts thousands of visitors from all over Germany every year. A highlight was the big parade, in which Emma Kremer paraded through the community on one of around 20 festively decorated floats. This year, the Lüneburg Heath also celebrated its peak in flowering areas, which made the festival a particularly colorful experience. The pageant took place as part of a nine-day program that featured more than 20 events.

Tradition and sense of community

The heather residents don't miss the celebrations and traditionally celebrate the heather blossom festival to the fullest. The first Heath Queen was elected in 1949, and the first official festival took place on Kronsberg in 1950. Since 1974, the celebration has been going on for a whole week. The opening event “The Lake is Burning” at Lopausee also attracted great interest this year.

Interestingly, the jury to choose the new queen is reconstituted every year. It consists of up to 20 people, including the reigning Heidebock, the previous queen and also people from the audience. Invitations to the jury are sent to municipalities and clubs to ensure broad participation and integrate different voices.

A look into the future

Emma Kremer now has the challenge of mastering around 100 representation appointments and continuing the legacy of her predecessor. Nele Rörup, on the other hand, was able to make over 90 appearances during her time in office and was a loyal ambassador for the Lüneburg Heath, always wearing a crown and a coat. Kremer will hopefully bring the same level of enthusiasm with her fresh energy and joy.

With the festive coronation by Emma Kremer and the impressive program during this festival week, the Heath Blossom Festival 2025 has once again proven that it is much more than just a regional event - it is an expression of the connection to the unique nature of the Lüneburg Heath and a sign of the lively sense of community in the region.
