JazzBaltica 2025: Record attendance and sold-out concerts on the beach!
JazzBaltica did not disappoint in 2025 either - from June 26th to 29th, Timmendorfer Strand was once again transformed into a pulsating jazz stronghold. With around 19,000 visitors, around 1,000 more than the previous year, the festival was a clear success. All ticketed events were sold out, underlining the high demand and popularity of the event. This is reported by the NDR.
A colorful program played the main role: a total of 35 concerts were offered, at which international stars such as the pianist Michael Wollny and the saxophonist Céline Bonacina were able to inspire. The Swedish trombonist and artistic director Nils Landgren was also there with his Funk Unit. Festival visitors could also look forward to exciting performances by young talents, such as the Spanish singer and trombonist Rita Payés. The Latvian Radio Big Band also created a great atmosphere.
A place of meeting
Prime Minister Daniel Günther did not miss the opportunity to personally praise JazzBaltica. He described the festival as a “place of encounter”, while Landgren was highlighted as a “genius mind”. Meanwhile, the IB.SH JazzAward, endowed with 5,000 euros, was awarded to the Lüneburg musician Lennart Meyer for his outstanding achievements on electric bass and double bass.
The festival not only offered ticketed concerts, but also a free open-air program with 21 other concerts. There was something for every jazz fan here - from groovy Electro Deluxe to touching performances by Nils Wülker and Arne Jansen. Studio owner and spectator Anna Schmidt expressed her enthusiasm: “So many talents in one place, it’s really something special!”
Looking into the future
The anticipation for the next JazzBaltica is already noticeable. The event is scheduled for June 25-28, 2026, with tickets available from mid-November 2025, according to information on the official festival website JazzBaltica.
Recordings of the concerts will be available in the JazzBaltica media library and on YouTube from autumn onwards, so fans don't have to miss any of the great events. Nils Landgren, who has been artistic director since 2012, has managed to increase the number of visitors from 6,000 to 19,000 and to support many young musicians, making him a central figure in German jazz. Born in Sweden in 1956, he has worked with greats such as ABBA and Herbie Hancock and is a significant voice on the jazz scene.
The festival remains a shining example of cultural diversity and exchange between different musicians and genres. JazzBaltica is and remains a highlight in the northern German music landscape!
