Cultural Prize for Theater for the Wide World: Becker Duo inspires Lüneburg!
The artistic landscape of Lüneburg shines in new splendor: On October 30, 2025, Birgit Becker and Raimund Becker-Wurzwallner, the founders of the “Theater zur wide Welt”, were awarded an important art prize. This award recognizes the 18-year history of the theater, which has performed over 31 plays since its founding in 2007, including well-known classics such as Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure - The rules of the game" as well as innovative in-house productions such as "Turning Points". The honor took place in the atmospheric backdrop of the Kulturbäckerei in Lüneburg, the theater's artistic home.
In their acceptance speeches, the two founders emphasized the support of their companions and sponsors. Birgit Becker's parents were particularly recognized for their tireless support. This showed once again how important a strong network is in the cultural scene. Becker, who studied cultural studies and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim and the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, has made a name for herself not only as an actress, but also as a systemic consultant.
Diverse artistic career
Birgit Becker brings her experience from engagements in Cottbus, Bremen, Halle, Potsdam and Berlin. In the meantime, Raimund Becker-Wurzwallner, a native of Austria, completed his acting training at the Scuola e Teatro Dimitri in Verscio. With engagements in numerous cities such as Berlin, Bochum, Lüneburg, Vienna, Graz, Zurich and Milan, he has created a broad artistic base. Today his focus is on working with his own ensemble and teaching at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, where he works as a lecturer in communication.
Both protagonists are intensively involved in the socio-cultural area. Becker developed projects with refugees and was involved in community theater. In doing so, they respond to social challenges and actively promote intercultural exchange.
Theater landscape and cultural relevance
Becker and Becker-Wurzwallner's award shows how important committed theater work is in the region. Their vision and dedication have enabled the “Theater zur wide Welt” to not only provide a stage for performances, but also to create a platform for social dialogue. Fortunately, the theater landscape in Germany, and especially in Lüneburg, is characterized by a lively diversity that is reminiscent of the cultural offerings in cities like Fort Worth, where a variety of events are offered, from Broadway shows to plays for the whole family. Such cultural experiences enliven social interaction and strengthen the feeling of community.
The future of the theater in Lüneburg looks promising. It is clear that Birgit Becker and Raimund Becker-Wurzwallner shape the heart and soul of their theater with a lot of passion and commitment. There is definitely something going on – and that is good for the entire region.
