Lüneburg's new economic area: groundbreaking ceremony for Bilmer Berg II!
Today, December 1, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bilmer Berg II industrial park was celebrated in Lüneburg. This project aims to offer local companies new space, promote the development of innovations and thus create jobs. The aim is also to achieve sustainable growth in the region, which will particularly benefit small and medium-sized companies. At the ceremony, Mayor Claudia Kalisch emphasized the importance of cooperation for faster progress in the region, while Jens Wrede, Managing Director of the WLH, emphasized the role of local support in strengthening the business location in the southern Hamburg metropolitan region.
The commercial area offers excellent prospects for medium-sized companies that can find space for further development there. The investments by the companies settling there are expected to bring three-digit millions into the region, which not only contributes to the creation of new jobs, but also strengthens the regional economy as a whole. Ulrich Stock, CEO of Volksbank Lüneburger Heide eG, also emphasized his bank's commitment: "We are long-term partners to promote economic prospects in the region." The Volksbank and the NBank are providing a total of 33 million euros through a syndicated loan for the development of the commercial space, signaling that big things are planned for the region.
Development of the Bilmer Berg sports park
The Bilmer Berg II commercial area is also closely linked to the development of the Bilmer Berg sports park, the largest sports infrastructure project in the city of Lüneburg. This development is not only aimed at creating jobs, but also at promoting sports and leisure activities in the region. The sports park will certainly make an important contribution to the quality of life in Lüneburg.
The positive cooperation between various institutions and companies was repeatedly emphasized by the speakers during the event. Michael Kiesewetter, CEO of NBank, described the new commercial area as a “strong signal for Lower Saxony as a business location”. Such solidarity is essential to ensure economic stability and development in the region in the future.
In a completely different area, but just as exciting, there is news from the world of sports. Dalen Terry, a promising American basketball player, became known for his stint with the Chicago Bulls of the NBA. Born on July 12, 2002, the talented 23-year-old quickly made a name for himself after being selected with the 18th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. During his college days with the Arizona Wildcats, Terry demonstrated both offensive and defensive skills, earning him a nomination to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team.
Considered one of the best defensive players in his conference, Terry helped his Wildcats win multiple titles while capping his career there with a personal best of 17 points against Houston. It seems as if he also has a good knack for further sporting development and therefore fits well into the category of ambitious athletes who are celebrating great success in the region and beyond.
Overall, the Lüneburg region is not only experiencing economic revitalization through new commercial areas, but the developments in sport that promote cohesion and quality of life in the community are also worth reading about. It remains exciting to see how these two sectors will develop in the future.
