The traditional Sülfmeister Days are coming up in the picturesque Hanseatic city of Lüneburg in just a few weeks, and the anticipation is already palpable. From September 26th to 28th, 2025, the city will once again be the stage for the historical festival that celebrates Lüneburg's medieval history with all its facets. The Sülfmeister Days, which have been taking place since 2003, pay tribute to the important salt trade and the city's old traditions. The disciplines of these competitions are inspired by old kopeck rides, which provide an insight into the city's traditions.
The festival begins on Friday with a lively market “Am Sande”, where numerous traders and artisans will gather with their stands. Bands that perform both Celtic folk and rousing medieval music provide musical entertainment. Special highlights are the delicious food and drinks that round off the event's culinary offerings. A call is being made for the participating groups, clubs and individuals to take part in the Kopefest parade, in which the pride and community of Lüneburg are visibly celebrated.

The highlight of the Sülfmeister Days takes place on Sunday when the 19th Sülfmeister is chosen in the big Kopefest parade, who can then represent the city for the next two years. This is a moving moment for the participants, who have to prove themselves in various disciplines. On Sunday evening, the event ceremoniously concludes with the traditional barrel burning, creating a very special atmosphere that connects the city's history and community. In addition to the competitions, visitors can expect a colorful supporting program that has something for every taste.
