Court overturns murder charge against ex-RAF terrorist Klette!

The issue of crime remains extremely topical in northern Germany. Daniela Klette, a former member of the RAF, has been on trial since March 25, 2025 for her alleged involvement in 13 robberies. The trial takes place in the Celle Higher Regional Court, which takes into account the high security requirements and the public interest. In addition to attempted murder, Klette is also charged with robberies and illegal possession of weapons, as n-tv reports.

The Verden regional court has now dropped the charge of attempted murder against Klette in connection with a robbery on a cash-in-transit truck. The court came to the conclusion that shots were fired during the crime on June 6, 2015 in Stuhr, but the shooter apparently did not want to accept the death of the driver. Klette's defense rejected the allegations and made it clear that the driver was not targeted, as ndr reports.

Systematic raids

The prosecution describes the approach of the trio, which includes Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub as well as Klette, as “divisive work and extremely conspiratorial”. According to the authorities, the three committed robberies in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein between 1999 and 2016 - Klette was usually behind the wheel of the getaway car.

Last but not least, the dimensions of the new high-security hall for the trial are remarkable. Klette criticized the costs of the rent, which amount to 3.6 million euros over two years. The process itself will be interrupted for a month, the continuation is planned for the beginning of August, with further dates until the end of the year.

Statistical support

The topic of robberies and robberies is not new – quite the opposite. According to Statista, over 38,000 robbery crimes were recorded in Germany in 2022, with the number of over 42 robberies on financial institutions also not being negligible. The clearance rate for robbery crimes is almost 60%, far higher than that for residential burglaries.

It remains to be seen whether the Klette affair provides an outlook on crime developments in Germany. One thing is certain: at a time when crime is becoming increasingly popular again, the question arises as to how we deal with it and where society draws its boundaries. The tracking of crimes and the legal consequences are essential to ensure a safe environment for all citizens.
