Osnabrück Peace School: ZDF becomes a partner for media education!
A big step towards media education: The Osnabrück Peace School was recently selected as part of ZDF's new partner school program for the 2025/26 school year. The program is part of the educational initiative “ZDF goes to school,” which aims to promote dialogue with young people. Over 500 schools from all over Germany applied, which made the selection of the Peace School particularly special. Headmaster Christoph Wiebke sees this as a worthy recognition of the school's commitment to media education reports the NOZ.
“ZDF goes school” pursues several exciting approaches. In the future, the students of the Peace School will be able to take part in school visits by ZDF editors and be active in hands-on activities. There will also be backstage offers that provide insights into how ZDF works. A so-called sounding board enables students to contact media representatives directly to discuss their questions and concerns.
It is particularly important to the school that students learn to critically question information. In times of disinformation, Wiebke emphasizes the relevance of media literacy adds ZDF.
Importance of media literacy
The growing spread of fake news and misinformation represents a challenge for society. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, trust in political and media institutions is fundamental to counteract susceptibility to false news. In recent years there has been increasing interest in fake news in the media and research. The aim is to promote critical reflection on media content and thus reduce the spread of misinformation explains the bpb.
In collaboration with Klicksafe, ZDF has already undertaken various initiatives to raise awareness of fake news. This includes the quiz “Safe News instead of Fake News”, which was developed specifically for young people to provide information about reputable sources and false reports. Headmistress Valentina Trützschler of the Sonnenhügel Community School in Völklingen emphasizes the great value of direct exchange with media representatives. Students must learn to find reliable sources of information and use them effectively in order to navigate the media landscape note the information from ZDF.
The ZDF partner school program promises to break exciting new ground in media education. The Osnabrück Peace School takes this departure seriously and plans to train the future media generation with fresh ideas and projects. When students are empowered to critically engage with information, ultimately not only do they benefit, but society as a whole also benefits. Trust in reputable media is the key to an informed and active citizenry.
