Joe Enochs is the new sports director: coaching scouts for VfL at work!
The football world of VfL Osnabrück is upside down these days! On June 11, Joe Enochs was introduced as the new sporting director, a significant step for the club as it looks to make a fresh start after a disappointing season in the third division. The 53-year-old returns to Bremer Brücke after an absence of more than seven years. With an impressive 376 competitive games for VfL, Enochs is the club's record player and brings a lot of experience from various positions that he held at the club from 1996 to 2017.
But the chatter between wishes and requirements is not over yet. The position of head coach is currently vacant as the club parted ways with Marco Antwerp and his assistant Frank Döpper at the end of May after the season did not meet expectations. Although VfL secured relegation, the failures in the league and the defeat in the state cup final against BW Lohne left their mark. Joe Enochs now has the no small task of finding a successor for Antwerp, and Timo Schultz is considered the favorite. Schultz was most recently active at 1. FC Köln, but was unable to prevent relegation.
A returnee with a lot of experience
Discussions for the coaching position are already underway and expectations are high. Managing director Michael Welling firmly believes in Enochs’ ability to lead a successful reorientation. “It's not a matter of nostalgia, but rather the intention to create the right conditions for the sporting future,” said Welling. Along with Enochs, Majid Cirousse, who was most recently assistant coach at Blau-Weiß Lohne, will also become part of the team. Cirousse will work part-time for VfL in the youth sector.
It will be particularly exciting because a new trainer is to be found before the medical tests on June 20th. Enochs will specifically look after the professional team and the U19s, while the club's performance area will be reorganized by Sebastian Schwermann. Schwermann has been with the club since 2022 and brings with him the necessary expertise in the areas of athletics, rehabilitation, nutrition, physiotherapy and sports medicine.
Challenges and opportunities
Joe Enochs' return to VfL Osnabrück brings a breath of fresh air, but also challenges. His experience at SSV Jahn Regensburg, where he missed promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, and his successful time at FSV Zwickau, where he secured relegation in the 3rd league four times, show that he knows how to get clubs on track. Now it's up to him to make the right decisions in order to get Osnabrück back on the road to success in the long term.
What will happen next with the search for a trainer and the upcoming plans remains exciting. The signs for the coming season could be crucial for the club's development - there's something to come! The fans of VfL Osnabrück can look forward to the coming weeks and hope for a return to old successes.
