Future of literature: conference in Osnabrück brings a breath of fresh air!

The University of Osnabrück will soon be opening its doors for an exciting event: On November 14th and 15th, everything will revolve around the “future of literary education”. This conference, entitled “Future: Literature – New Forms of Literary Education”, is organized in cooperation with the West Lower Saxony Literature Office. The program promises a colorful mix of lectures, workshops and a rousing poetry slam, where local talent will also be on stage. Regional update reports that the initiators aim to find new ways to convey literature in an increasingly digital society.

The conference begins on November 14th at 4 p.m. in the Renaissance Hall of the Ledenhof. The topic of teaching literature in educational institutions is discussed here - a central concern that interests many educators and scientists. The following day, November 15th, the program begins at 11 a.m. with a panel on promoting literature, which is discussed as an important part of promoting reading.

A diverse program for everyone

A special highlight will be the lecture by Prof. Walter Erhart from Bielefeld University. His contribution entitled “Song lyrics and more” will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Museumsquartier and will be musically accompanied by the Neil Young tribute band “Crazy Young Horse”. For those who prefer an audible experience, we recommend the poetry slam on Friday evening at 7 p.m. in the Blue Note. Here the poetry slammer Jule Weber and the author Henrik Szántó present their program “Literature Thought Out Loud”. Entry costs 13 euros, reduced price 8 euros. Registrations are over gstoo.de/literatur-laut-gedacht possible.

At the end of the conference there will be an exciting panel entitled “BookTok or Feuilleton – or both?” on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the Ledenhof. Here the audience is invited to discuss the relevance of modern and classic literary formats. Admission costs 8 euros, reduced price 5 euros, and registrations can be made at the West Lower Saxony Literature Office. Contact details such as telephone number (0541/202-7908) and email (LitOs-info@osnabrueck.de) can be found on the event page.

This conference is aimed not only at academics, but also at interested citizens. The aim is to discuss the different ways of conveying literature and to discuss together how access to literature can be redesigned in the digital world.
