BRAWO commitment: Over 2 million euros collected for children in need!
In the BRAWO region, Volksbank BRAWO together with the BRAWO GROUP have sent clear signals for sustainability and social responsibility. Not only is one's own economic interests promoted here, but great attention is also paid to equal opportunities and the fight against child poverty. How paz online reports, long partnerships and numerous funding projects support children's healthy and equitable growth.
The United Kids Foundations has been supporting disadvantaged children since 2005. By the end of 2024, an impressive number of 88,150 children and young people had already benefited from 653 successfully implemented projects. This number reflects the commitment that united kids foundations under the leadership of volunteers. In addition, by involving other partners in the CSR network, over 188,000 children and young people can be supported in education and social projects, resulting in an impressive number of over 495,000 trees planted.
Strong community projects
A highlight of the activities was the walk4help, which took place on July 5, 2025 in the Bürgerpark Braunschweig. This run, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the United Kids Foundations, was a great success. Over 2 million euros were collected for children and youth projects, including four specific projects in Peine. The head of BRAWO's Peine directorate, Stefan Honrath, highlighted the tireless importance of his bank's social commitment and made it clear that such initiatives are indispensable for the community.
Such commitment also shows how important it is to offer every child the opportunity to have a good start in life. The IGLU study shows that one in five children goes to school without breakfast, which leads to problems such as a lack of concentration and poorer grades. To counteract this, the brotZeit association was founded, which has been offering school breakfasts in 21 funding regions in Germany since 2009. The aim is to provide the children with a healthy breakfast and at the same time teach them key skills in social contacts. Breadtime has now reached 480 schools and is supported by 2,800 volunteers who prepare almost 18.7 million breakfasts every day.
The path to a better future
It is clear to see that a lot is happening in the BRAWO region. Volksbank is not only involved in these social projects, but also offers its employees an internal training program called “TAFF!” which promotes practical training. The corporate structure of Volksbank BRAWO and its subsidiaries is also future-oriented, particularly in the areas of real estate and green energy.
Social commitment is of great importance for everyone involved. UNICEF shows in its reports that partnerships are crucial to achieving effective outcomes for children. How UNICEF clarifies, the action of every individual is necessary to achieve the global development goals and to provide children with access to education and basic services. The BRAWO region has already taken far-reaching steps to get closer to these goals and to work together on a better future for the next generation.
