For Daniel Theis, 33 years old and an impressive center at 2.04 meters, the upcoming competition will be a very special event. The native of Salzgitter has achieved a lot in recent years: in 2022 he won the European Championship bronze with the German national team and crowned his achievements with the world championship title in 2023. The German team has prepared well and will start against Montenegro on Wednesday. A master with many experiences

The beginnings and the love of the game
His career began with football, but young Theis soon found his passion in basketball. He reached his current status via SV Glück Auf Gebhardshagen and SG Braunschweig. Here he not only found his calling, but also friendships that last to this day, especially with Dennis Schröder. “We had a telepathy playing culture,” remembers the center, who showed remarkable performances as a teenager and made people sit up and take notice in the NBBL.
The road to the NBA was rocky, but the captivating commitment and dedication paid off: the successes with Brose Baskets Bamberg and the award as the best German young player speak for themselves. “I like to remind swapping in the NBA of collecting Panini stickers,” smiles Theis about his experiences with the many swaps.
He is currently thinking about returning to the Bundesliga, but now his focus is entirely on the European Championship. With a year left on his contract with Monaco and the attractive opportunities in front of him, it will certainly be exciting to see where the basketball star's path leads.
