Dramatic rescue on Lake Salzgitter: swimmer in need!
Salzgitter, Deutschland - The Salzgittersee, a popular starting point for those seeking relaxation and sports enthusiasts, once again demonstrated its function as a lively meeting point. In bright weather, a student triathlon for fifth and sixth graders took place on June 26, which, however, ended with a dramatic incident. A student experienced exhaustion during the competition and had to be brought to safety by DLRG Salzgitter Lebenstedt in a critical moment of saving forces. While she first held onto a turning buoy and then threatened to sink in the water, the lifeguards were quickly on hand and could finally put the girl ashore. Fortunately, the student was unharmed and was soon handed over to her mother's care. The remaining competitions were continued under optimal conditions and were very well received by both the participants and on social media, where the things of the DLRG received a lot of encouragement.
But what would the Salzgittersee be without its numerous events? When the sun is shining, the frequency of visitors increases and the range of activities increases. This place is not only valued by families and leisure workers, but also by schools that regularly align their sporting competitions at the lake. It shows how important early water habituation and swimming training are in order to apply the safety of everyone. A look at the DLRG-Homepage reveals that swimming badges such as bronze, silver and gold show the successful acquisition of the necessary skills-an essential basis for all water athletes.
Community experience at the Pentecostal camp
Another highlight on Lake Salzgitter was the Pentecostal camp of the DLRG Landesjugend Lower Saxony, which took place over the Pentecost weekend. With around 500 participants, including children, young people and supervisors from all over Lower Saxony, the event set a new record. Under the motto "stranded in paradise", the participants had the opportunity to experience many exciting activities. The highlights were a trip to the Braunschweig Zoo and a night hike through the adjacent forest. The local group was with 12 children and several supervisors on site, while other groups have traveled wide arrival, such as the group from Uelzen, which was covered by over 300 km.
The organization of the tent camp was a real community performance. The participants not only took over the food edition and the preparations in the kitchen, but also the entire further organization by the local groups themselves. Nadja Vollmers, the youth chairwoman, enthusiastically summed up that the close cooperation between the groups has contributed to a smooth process and she is already looking forward to the next year that could possibly take place in another place in Lower Saxony.
This shows that the Salzgittersee is not only a place of relaxation, but also of the community and sport. Thanks to the tireless commitment of the DLRG and the local organizer, this place in the region remains very popular and a safe place for all water sports enthusiasts.
