New daycare building in Salzgitter: An important step for Thiede!

On June 16, 2025 the time has finally come: the inauguration of the new Brotweg daycare center in Salzgitter is imminent. This modern facility will begin operations in the third quarter and can accommodate a total of 80 children. The construction project is an important project that is intended to sustainably improve the educational landscape in the Thiede district. Interested parents can currently register via the city of Salzgitter's parent portal to secure a place for their little ones. The daycare center looks after 30 crèche children and 50 kindergarten children in four groups. The city of Salzgitter financed the new building with around 6.45 million euros, with the state of Lower Saxony supporting around 3.2 million euros from the integration fund.

Mayor Frank Klingebiel emphasized the importance of the daycare center as an early educational institution and emphasized how crucial such projects are for the future of the district. In the last ten years, around 1,000 crèche and daycare places have been created in Salzgitter. It is therefore clear that the city takes the great need for childcare places seriously and is continually expanding the offerings.

Construction progress and future operator

The new construction of schools and daycare centers as part of the Lower Saxony structural aid program is on the home stretch. The Brotweg daycare center in particular has already made significant progress. The current status of the construction work shows that the interior work is progressing and the daycare center should be completed as planned on June 10, 2025. In addition to the daycare center, new buildings such as a two-class elementary school in Salzgitter-Lichtenberg and a four-class elementary school in Salzgitter-Bad are also being built in the city. These projects were welcomed by the Die Linke parliamentary group and viewed as an important step towards improving the educational infrastructure.

The Caritas Association Salzgitter e.V. was won as the sponsor for the operation of the Brotweg daycare center. The daycare facilities are lovingly divided into a crèche and daycare area, equipped with a spacious entrance area and extensive outdoor facilities. Particular attention is paid to the focus of the facility: movement.

Sustainability in construction

The new building was designed with sustainability in mind. A photovoltaic system and a green roof help ensure that the building can be operated in a climate-friendly manner. Such measures are important in times when environmentally friendly construction is becoming increasingly important.
