Benefit concert in Uelzen: Music against sexual violence!

A very special charity concert is on the program in Uelzen: under the title “Break the silence” the topic of sexual violence will be brought into focus today from 3 p.m. on Herzogenplatz. Six talented musicians, including Lizzn and Femmebivalent, perform to raise awareness of an extremely important issue. This event coincides with the controversial appearance of Till Lindemann, the frontman of Rammstein, who will appear in the city shortly afterwards as part of the Metal Air Festival. But the organizer of the benefit concert would like to make it clear: Her concern is not a protest against Lindemann or the festival itself, but rather an invitation to critically examine the topic.

“We want to break the silence,” said the organizer, who wished to remain anonymous because she was asked to protect herself due to online threats. The donations collected from the concert will go to the Violetta Dannenberg e.V. association, which specializes in advice, prevention and education regarding sexual violence. There will also be an information stand for the association on Herzogenplatz, which will offer visitors further information.

The appearance of Till Lindemann

While the benefit concert is generating a lot of attention, Lindemann's upcoming performance is also in the spotlight. The controversial artist will give his concert in advance of the Open R Festival, which will take place from June 27th to 29th, 2025. Lindemann's appearances have been discussed several times due to allegations of sexual assault, and an online petition entitled "No stage for abuse of power" has already found more than 360 supporters. The city of Uelzen's equal opportunities officer, Sandra Hoffmann, makes it clear that she cannot approve of the decision to allow Lindemann to appear. “Sexualized violence must not be tolerated,” she emphasizes. This makes dialogue about issues such as abuse of power and preventive measures all the more important.

In order to take this awareness into account, the Berlin-Brandenburg Social Pedagogical Training Institute cooperates with organizations such as Wildwasser e.V. and Hilfe für Jungs e.V. The aim is to sensitize specialists in child and youth welfare to the issue of sexualized violence and to strengthen their ability to act. In this context, informative videos on the various facets of sexual violence were published.

Make a strong statement

The benefit concert, which begins at 5 p.m. with performances by the artists every half hour, is intended to send a strong message and initiate discussion about sexual violence. The organizer's aim is not only to draw attention to the problem, but also to offer concrete solutions and preventative measures. Today, Uelzen has the opportunity to make a clear commitment against sexual violence and at the same time support the perspective of those affected by violence.

The mood in Uelzen today will certainly be mixed, but one thing is clear: the importance of addressing sexual violence cannot be emphasized enough. So it remains to be seen how opinions about Lindemann's appearance and the benefit concert will develop. Today Uelzen is witnessing an important dialogue.
