New police chief in Uelzen: Sebastian Pölking strengthens security!

In the Hanseatic city of Uelzen there is a breath of fresh air at the top of the police station. Sebastian Pölking, 49 years old and living in Adendorf, took over the reins on October 1, 2025. The official presentation took place on Thursday by Stefanie Lerche, head of the Lüneburg/Lüchow-Dannenberg/Uelzen police station. In the role of police chief, Pölking will lead the police station, which looks after over 95,000 citizens and extends over almost 1,500 square kilometers.

Around 140 dedicated employees who work in the areas of administration, criminal investigations and patrol service support Pölking, who emphasizes that contact with his colleagues is essential for him. “I’m interested in working on the streets,” said the new police chief. The work also affects him emotionally: “I feel sorry when colleagues drive off with flashing lights.”

A change with challenges

Pölking brings with him in-depth experience that he was able to acquire in his previous career in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and in the Heidekreis and Harburg police stations. His predecessor, Malte Ramme, resigned from his position to return to the Braunschweig Police Department. Pölking is thus starting off in the context of a personnel change that also affects the Harburg police station stelle-aktuell.de reported. There, Oliver Kues will temporarily head the Winsen police station, while Janine Mai will succeed him as head of operations.

Pölking has big plans and would like to intensify cooperation with the fire department, the rescue service, the federal police and the Technical Relief Agency (THW). In addition, cyclists and e-scooter riders are a high priority for him. “I will tackle these topics,” explains Pölking, quite pragmatically and forward-looking.

A look at the future

Although Pölking currently has no information about the length of his term of office, he is refraining from discussing the topic of farewell. “I just want to do my job,” said the new police chief, who is determined despite the high fluctuation within the police department. At a time when police work is often faced with challenges, Pölking brings new approaches and motivation.

The next few months will show how his ideas and concepts will prove themselves in practice. The citizens of Uelzen can only hope that the new police chief has a good hand and always keeps the interests of the community in mind.
