The 40th AZ evening fun run in Uelzen not only won the hearts of runners on June 14, 2025, but also set a participant record. A total of 2,725 starters took to the track and ensured the second-best result in the history of the event, only surpassed by 2017 with 2,781 participants. Jörg Deumann, the chief organizer, was overwhelmed by the great response. 200 replacement start numbers were kept ready to meet the high demand. This event has already established itself as one of the largest running events in northern Germany, as is also written on hdsports.org.

The atmosphere was simply great thanks to Peter Hellström's moderation. He made sure that nothing was missing during the entire event and that the atmosphere was relaxed. However, in midsummer temperatures, the participants were afraid to set the best times because the heat posed a challenge in the main runs. This year, the evening fun run was characterized by high temperatures, which was in contrast to the rainy conditions of 2018.

Winners and special honors

SV Rosche's double victories in the main races did not go unnoticed. In the women's category, Jennifer Boehnke impressed with a time of 18:47 minutes, followed by Lisa Feuerherdt in 20:38 minutes. The men were also fast: Markus Lindner won in 17:17 minutes, followed by Dominic Bräuer, who crossed the finish line in 17:53 minutes. Britta Giesen (W50) was the fastest in the long distance with 47:27 minutes, while Christian Boohs dominated the male competition in the long distance with 35:38 minutes. Women and men all ran remarkable times, despite the oppressive temperatures.

Special attention was also paid to the youngest participants in the trial run, which was organized for two-year-old children. The focus here wasn't just on the sporting achievements: the oldest participants were also honored, with the oldest runner of the day being a proud 87 years old!

Appreciation of schools and kindergartens

A highlight was the handover of the AZ School Cup to the Hermann Löns School in Uelzen, which impressed with a participation rate of 71.06%. The Dibber daycare center at Stern also received the AZ Kindergarten Cup for its high participation rate of 65%. These honors show how important the event is also to the local community and how it helps to promote awareness of health and sport.

The first city councilor Dr. Florian Ebeling took the opportunity to point out the high number of participants and gave practical running tips for the heat. His commitment shows that the run is not just a sporting event, but also a community event that is supported by the city.

Overall, this year's AZ evening fun run shows that there is great local cohesion and that enthusiasm for running is very important in Uelzen. This event remains a fixed date in the calendar of running enthusiasts and is already an exciting preview of the coming years. In addition, many athletes are already looking forward to the next edition, which is also supported by society and the German Athletics Association.
