Security measures in Uelzen: Festivals under high pressure!

In Uelzen, the security situation is taken seriously. After the shocking terrorist attacks in cities such as Magdeburg and Munich, the city administration has taken urgently necessary measures to ensure security at upcoming events. On Saturday, June 21st, Metal Air Uelzen will take place and from June 27th to 29th the 15th Open R will take place, with big acts like Bryan Adams and Deichkind. All of these events together attract around 30,000 visitors. It is therefore even more important that safety precautions are not taken lightly.

True to the motto “Safety first,” the city has implemented strict measures. On Albrecht-Thaer-Straße, where the events take place, pedestrian traffic is strictly separated from vehicles. In addition, Albrecht-Thaer-Straße and some neighboring streets will be closed to cars from June 20th. Access to the car park is via Bohldamm, which has a one-way system.

Comprehensive security measures

The city has put in place a great plan to provide visitors with a safe experience. With 60 filled water tanks as impact protection, concrete blocks and even vehicles parked sideways, effective protection against any threats is created. Security forces will be present not only at the entrance, but also throughout the site. To ensure that everything goes smoothly, dog-assisted night guards are also carried out.

Particularly noteworthy is the clear separation of the intake zones. Ticket holders with different tickets (front-of-stage, seat and festival tickets) have separate entrances, which ensures an orderly process. An additional highlight is a benefit concert against sexual violence, which takes place parallel to Metal Air on Herzogenplatz. The police are also keeping an eye on what is happening here and will keep an eye on any actions.

Historical context of security measures

The current situation is not just a reaction to past incidents in Germany. A horrific terrorist attack in Paris in November 2015 was followed by drastic security measures at major sporting events such as the international football match in Hanover (scheduled for November 16th). At that time, potentially devastating attacks were barely thwarted, prompting security authorities to take preventative steps. As a result, security precautions at events are constantly discussed - a circumstance that has only been further reinforced by the events surrounding the terror warnings, as Deutschlandfunk confirms.

Regulations and responsibilities

The questions surrounding the responsibility and performance of special security precautions at events are often a sensitive topic. The Event FAQ describes that compliance with the regulations according to Section 34a GewO is a prerequisite for permission to join the safety committee and discusses the legal basis for access protection and video surveillance. Concern about terrorist attacks has meant that even prominent events have to take a particularly careful look at their security concepts.

This makes it clear: organizers not only have to clearly define and enforce their house rules, but also ensure that the safety of visitors is the top priority. In view of the impending dangers, the willingness to cooperate with the authorities and security services is high on the agenda.

Visitors can look forward to exciting days in Uelzen and at the same time be reassured that everything necessary is being done to ensure their safety. Let's let the festival air blow around our noses!
