City Fire Department Day 2025: A celebration of youth and tradition in Groß Liedern!
The City Fire Department Day 2025 took place in Groß Liedern on June 14th in midsummer temperatures and was a real crowd puller. The event had temperatures of up to 32 degrees that day and offered a colorful hustle and bustle for the participants, including youth fire brigades and active emergency services from the Hanseatic city of Uelzen.
Organized by the Groß Liedern local fire department, the event was even more special because the celebrations were linked to the fire department's 90th anniversary. Numerous stations were set up in the shade and sufficient drinking water was also provided. The participants, who often appeared in their uniforms, not only brought a sense of duty, but also sunglasses, caps and sun hats to beat the heat.
Commitment and competition
The city fire brigade day was made up of three exciting parts: a training march by the operational departments, traditional competitions and the national youth fire brigade competition. The training march led the participants through the town center of Groß Liedern and included a total of eleven stations. Ten of these stations were focused on firefighting tasks, while two were skill exercises that challenged sportsmanship.
The tasks were based, among other things, on modular basic training, with elements such as respiratory protection, site hygiene, radio, first aid and portable ladders. The goal of the fire brigade from Oldenstadt was to defend their title in the training march, which they achieved impressively.
A look into the future of the youth fire department
But the city fire brigade day was not the only event that excited the fire brigade community this year. The German Youth Fire Brigade Day, which will take place in Dresden from September 6th to 8th, 2024, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the German Youth Fire Brigade. Children and young people from youth fire departments, volunteers from associations and family members come together to celebrate this. Plans include, among other things, the German championship in the national competition and a blue light mile, which is intended for the whole family. Moritz Salomon, the deputy federal youth leader, was already looking forward to the event and the numerous activities that the participants can expect jugendfeuerwehr.de.
Currently, over 330,000 children and young people are involved in around 19,000 youth fire departments, which represents an increase of 4.3 percent compared to the previous year. Particularly pleasing are the 12,044 young people who moved from children's groups to the youth departments and almost 21,000 former youth fire brigade members who actively joined the volunteer fire brigade stern.de. These developments show that youth work not only conveys values, but also creates community and perspectives.
The city fire brigade day in Groß Liedern was not only a successful celebration, but also represents an important building block in the promotion of fire brigade culture and voluntary commitment. It will be exciting to see what highlights the coming year has in store!
