Uelzen is preparing for protests: police are increasing their presence!

Next Saturday, November 15, 2025, there will be a lot of activity in Uelzen. Several rallies and a peace march will take place on Hammersteinplatz, organized by the protest alliance “Together for Germany” (GfD). These events are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and promise to bring together a wide range of participants and opinions. Police plan to have increased forces on site to ensure security, especially after the reported unrest that occurred at the last event on October 18th.

The protest alliance is mobilizing in numerous German cities for its concerns, which range from the demand for freedom of expression to nationwide border controls. The end of military aid for Ukraine is also one of the central demands of the GfD, which emerged from a social media call not long ago daily news reported.

Counter-demonstration and positions

But Uelzen does not remain undisturbed. The local Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance is calling for a counter-demonstration, which will start at 12.30 p.m. at the intersection of Bahnhofstrasse and Achterstrasse under the motto “Uelzen remains colorful – together against right-wing agitation”. This movement then moves to the Ratswiesen to send a strong signal against the provocative demands of the GfD.

In addition, the members of the Linksjugend [‘solid] Uelzen will be holding a “pudding with fork meeting” at the Ratsteich at 12 p.m. There are not only treats here, but also the opportunity to actively position yourself against the views of the GfD. Mayor Jürgen Markwardt appeals to all participants to use freedom of assembly both responsibly and peacefully in order not to endanger public safety.

Results of past protests

At the last GfD rallies, such as in Dortmund, there were already conflicts between demonstrators and the police. In Dortmund, in addition to thousands of protesters, numerous counter-demonstrators were also observed in the absence of a unified picture, with... daily news It was estimated that between 300 and 500 people were mobilized.

Reports on past protests showed how extremists and “lateral thinkers” mingled among the participants, although the organizers assured that they would distance themselves from extremist positions. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution considers the GfD to be potentially dangerous, but does not see any constitutionally threatening content in its demands.

Overall, the people of Uelzen can expect an exciting Saturday where freedom of expression is very important - but not without the dark side of social tensions and contrary opinions, which are also on the agenda.
