Drones search for puma: Mystery about the big cat in Saxony-Anhalt!
In the south of Saxony-Anhalt, a possible big cat is causing excitement among residents. Drones are currently in use to locate the animal. According to Sabine Faulstich, the speaker responsible for the Saale district, it is assumed with 80 percent certainty that it is a puma. This information is no coincidence: According to the Saalekreis, an existing video should be authentic and not a fake. Several teams are using drones to find the animal.
The population is urged not to approach the animal and to avoid meadows and forests. If the puma is sighted, an expert should be called in who has decided to anesthetize the animal and then take it to a zoo. Such an approach ensures that neither humans nor animals are put in danger, while at the same time placing the animal in a safe environment. This action could, for example, take place in one of the numerous nature reserves in Saxony-Anhalt, which offer important habitats for numerous bird and animal species.
Habitat of critically endangered species
Saxony-Anhalt is not only known for its exciting predators, but also for its diverse nature reserves. With 266 FFH areas and 32 bird sanctuaries, the region offers a habitat for countless breeding bird species. Over 200 species find their home in these areas. The different landscape forms that can be discovered here are particularly fascinating.
One example is the Drömling Nature Park, which lies on the border with Lower Saxony. This former swamp area is now crossed by the Mittelland Canal and serves as a refuge for various bird species, including storks, cranes and wild geese. The biodiversity is also remarkable in the Seelandeien near Frose, a 75 hectare wetland, as the reed bunting and pendulum tit, among others, live here.
Nature and bird protection in Saxony-Anhalt
The Steckby State Bird Sanctuary near Zerbst is one of the oldest nature conservation facilities in Germany. Since its founding in 1920, it has been involved in analyzing the population of bird species and developing protection strategies for endangered species. Their tasks are diverse: from inventory recording to scientific bird ringing to informing citizens and authorities about bird protection. The bird sanctuary is supported by around 400 volunteer bird watchers who play an important role in recording bird populations.
While encountering a puma in Saxony-Anhalt is a thrill, the rich birdlife shows that the region has much more to offer. The harmonious coexistence of humans and animals is a fundamental goal that is advanced with every day that experts and conservationists take action. The mixture of nature observations and the search for a wild puma could contribute in a special way to researching animal diversity in Saxony-Anhalt.
