Burglary in Lohne! Drug driving and accidents shake Damme!
Insights into the current situation in northern Germany are available today, October 1, 2025. While the police in some cities are struggling with everyday challenges, other incidents are also to be reported.
Burglary in Lohne
Unknown perpetrators caused a stir in Lohne. Between September 27th and September 30th, 2025, they forcibly broke into a residential building on Brägeler Strasse. It remains unclear whether stolen goods were actually stolen. The police are asking the public for information on 04442/80846-0 in order to solve this brazen act.
Traffic offenses in Damme
On September 30th, a Sunday, a 44-year-old woman was stopped in Damme for driving her car under the influence of cannabis and amphetamine - and without any driving license. The police stopped driving and took a blood sample from her. This type of driving is classified as an administrative offense under German law, but can also lead to more severe penalties if driving errors occur or third parties are endangered. The monetary limit for such offenses can be between 500 and 1,500 euros and leads to a driving ban of 1 to 3 months, as the police advice service polizei-beratung.de explains.
Traffic accidents and driving bans
There was also a traffic accident in Damme in which a 71-year-old woman who fell while avoiding a horse and sulky team was slightly injured. The driver responsible left the scene of the accident without permission. It is important to emphasize that traffic accident escapes in Germany can have serious legal consequences. The police are looking for witnesses to the incident and ask for reports on 05491/999360.
Another traffic accident was discovered in Dinklage, where the unknown man damaged two traffic signs in the roundabout between 12:45 p.m. and 1:20 p.m. Here too, the extent of the damage is still unknown and information is important for the investigation (Tel.: 04443/97749-0).
Drugs in traffic
A current dark field study by the Road Safety Board shows alarming figures: In 2023, around 250,000 people drove a vehicle under the influence of drugs, while only 8,676 of them were reported - and that is only around 3% of the actual cases. This data makes it clear that the majority of affected drivers remain undetected. There is therefore an increasing need for action, particularly on the subject of drugs in road traffic, in order to remove these drivers from traffic more efficiently (kfv.at).
Overall, it shows that there is still a lot of room for improvement in road safety when it comes to preventing drug-driving. Police encourage all road users to act responsibly and avoid drug use before using a vehicle.
