RASTA II succumbs to Rostock: advancement further in the distance!
The RASTA Vechta II basketball team suffered a bitter defeat last Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the Arena Rostock. As part of the 5th matchday of the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProB, the team lost against the Seawolves Academy with 61 to 84. The encounter showed in the first quarters that RASTA II had to face a strong opponent.
The Vechta team was able to score an early 8:6 in the first quarter, but then the Rostock team took command and gained a lead of up to 27 points (26th minute, 32:59). The match winner for the Seawolves was Jalen Page, who delivered an impressive performance with 29 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. RASTA II's best player was Malte Giljan, who achieved a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but could not avert defeat.
Statistical reviews
The game's statistics clearly show where RASTA II reached its limits. While Rostock had a hit rate of 45% (30/66) from the field, the Vechta team only achieved 28% (19/68). The players from Rostock were also ahead in terms of rebounds and grabbed 47 balls, while RASTA II only managed 44 rebounds.
Despite the clear defeat, RASTA II can take some positive aspects from the game, especially the fact that they were able to reduce the deficit to 54:63 in the 33rd minute. The low number of ball losses (20 to 19) also shows that the players were committed. The next challenge is already coming up: The game against TSV Neustadt temps Shooters awaits on October 26th.

RASTA Vechta is optimistic about the future, not only due to its sporting achievements, but also thanks to a growing interest in basketball throughout the country. The German Basketball Association has reported an increase in membership numbers since 2015, which underlines the importance of the sport.
Basketball has undergone a remarkable development in recent years, especially since the German national team became world champion in 2023 and Dennis Schröder stood out as MVP of the tournament. The anticipation for the coming Bundesliga season is palpable, and with RASTA Vechta there is a team that is aiming for a permanent place in the basketball elite.
It remains to be hoped for all fans that RASTA II can show more consistency in the coming games and, ideally, get their first points of the season on the next match day.
