Towers lose against Ludwigsburg despite Ogbe explosion with 30 points!

The Veolia Towers Hamburg continue to find themselves in crisis in the Basketball Bundesliga. In the eighth game of the season they lost to MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg 84:88. Despite an impressive performance from Kenneth Ogbe, who scored a career-high 30 points, it was not enough for their first win of the season. This means that Hamburg remains in last place in the table.

The game at home started with high intensity. There were 13 fouls and numerous free throws in the first quarter. However, Hamburg got off to a better start and narrowly won the first quarter 26:24. The Towers led 45-44 at halftime, but the GIANTS turned the tables in the third quarter and went ahead 72-61 after an impressive 13-2 run. In the final minute, Hamburg fought their way back to within a point, but were unable to equalize. At least there were glimmers of hope, as coach Benka Barloschky noted after the game, who saw positive aspects in the game despite the disappointment.

Kenneth Ogbe remains a tower

However, the team can look forward to a constant in their ranks: Kenneth Ogbe. The 30-year-old recently extended his contract until 2027 and is considered one of the most efficient German players in the team. Marvin Willoughby, Managing Director Sport, emphasizes the importance of this decision for the future of the team. Ogbe not only brings experience, but has also made positive development despite an injury-plagued past and is consistent on the pitch. This season he only missed two competitive games and is an important support for the team.

The Towers now face another challenge. They have been waiting for a win for 217 days, while the success moves the RIESEN to fourth place in the table. Ludwigsburg now has to prove itself against Trier on St. Nicholas Day, while Hamburg visits BAXI Manresa on December 5th.

A look at the basketball scene in Germany

Basketball is still very popular in Germany. Around 68 million people follow the sport, although interest has stagnated in recent years. The easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, which has consisted of 16 teams since 2003/2004, is still experiencing an increase in the number of members. Record value was registered at the beginning of 2024. The success of the German national team, which recently became both world and European champions, contributes to the popularity of the sport. Dennis Schröder, the captain of the national team, was named MVP twice and is among the players who continue to fuel the basketball fever in Germany.

So the next challenge for Veolia Towers is upon us and as they fight for their first win of the season, one can only hope that Kenneth Ogbe and his team can turn things around.
