What's going on in Jever? On July 16, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., the police became aware of a conspicuous red moped that was driving through the Brauerwiesen residential area without an insurance license plate and at excessive speed. A witness reported the situation, which led to officers being deployed quickly. How news.de Reportedly, a 17-year-old teenager who is already known to the police was identified as the driver.
During the subsequent check it turned out that the young person was found at his home address with the scooter. He explained that he had taken a test drive after renovation work. But appearances are deceptive: according to the police, the vehicle was not insured. The 17-year-old only had a moped test certificate and was actually not allowed to ride a scooter.
Significant defects and consequences
When checking the scooter, the officers not only discovered that the operating license had expired, but also that the vehicle had significant defects. In addition, manipulation of the engine throttling was discovered, which could make the scooter faster than legally permitted. A safety risk for yourself and other road users that should not be underestimated!
Due to the violations identified, further travel on public roads was prohibited. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the 17-year-old, which relates to driving without a license and a violation of the Compulsory Insurance Act. After the police measures were completed, the young person was handed over to the care of his mother, which is often considered sensible by the authorities in such cases.
About the moped test certificate
Do you know that? With a moped you no longer need a driver's license! But in order to be able to ride a moped, you need a moped test certificate, which can be obtained from the age of 15. The training even begins at the age of 14.5 and includes at least six theoretical hours. A first aid course is not required, which makes things easier for many. Nevertheless, it is important to understand the traffic rules and driving behavior well, because safety comes first.
A moped test certificate entitles you to drive a motorized bicycle, but if you want to ride a moped that travels faster than 45km/h, you need a class AM driving license. And of course, everyone who travels with a moped also thinks about getting a new insurance license plate every year - a must for every moped driver.
