DAB+ Boom: Lower Saxony expands radio range for everyone!
Something is happening in the radio sector in Lower Saxony! After the nationwide private DAB+ platform was launched on July 13, 2023, there is now exciting news about the reach and program offering. According to reports from digitaltelevision.de A total of 18 different private radio programs are available to listeners on 117 slots in ten distribution areas. The stations include well-known names such as Antenne Niedersachsen, radio ffn and Radio 21.
DAB+, which stands for digital audio transmission, not only brings higher sound quality, but also a much greater variety of programs. Loud Lower Saxony State Media Authority (NLM) Digitalization could revolutionize the radio landscape. State Secretary Dr. Jörg Mielke emphasizes the importance of the DAB+ system for the future of radio and sees the launch as a real milestone.
New transmission locations for more reach
In order to further improve the reception quality and range, Lower Saxony has set up additional broadcasting locations for the private DAB+ ensembles. According to the information from digitaltelevision.de The Federal Network Agency has, among other things, put a new location in Wilhelmshaven into operation with a filling transmitter of 200 watts. This makes it possible to integrate the community broadcaster Radio Jade into this ensemble.
Furthermore, a new location in Lingen-Damaschke with 5 kW has been set up for the NI EMSLAND ensemble, while a planned location in Damme with 2.5 kW as part of the NI OSNABRCK bouquet will expand the offering. The NI Nordsee K11A ensemble with an 8 kW transmitter system in Aurich is not overshadowed by the innovations.
The development continues
The continuous development in the DAB+ area will not slow down in the coming months. The first expansions took place in the Rosengarten and Sibbesse/Hildesheim regions at the end of December 2024. By the end of July 2023, listeners can also look forward to further programs that will be added to the DAB+ platform, such as dabplus.de reported. Prof. Christian Krebs from the NLM describes these developments as significant progress for the radio landscape in Lower Saxony.
The technical implementation of this modern platform is carried out by Media Broadcast GmbH, which once again demonstrates its good hand for innovative solutions. The switch to DAB+ shows that Lower Saxony has its finger on the pulse of the times and is ready to take advantage of the advantages of the digital future.
