Big blue light day in Wilhelmshaven: technology, fun and action for the whole family!
An exciting day for young and old: On June 14, 2025, the 6th Blue Light Day took place in Wilhelmshaven, which offered a dazzling exhibition about the world of aid and rescue organizations on Valoisplatz. Numerous visitors braved the summer heat and learned more in an exciting way about the various emergency services that ensure our safety in everyday life. Organized by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the city of Wilhelmshaven, the event was held under the motto “Experience – Marvel – Participate!” direct contact between the emergency services and the population.
A total of 16 aid organizations were on site and presented their skills and techniques. These included the fire brigade, police, the Technical Relief Agency (THW), the DLRG as well as emergency services and even customs. The ADAC air rescue helicopter “Christoph 26” amazed young and old as it landed on the site and enabled children and parents to experience first-hand how air rescue works. For many, this personal encounter was an opportunity to find out about the various training careers and volunteer opportunities within these organizations, which definitely contributes positively to recruiting young talent.
Insights into technical challenges
The traffic police's rollover simulator attracted particular interest, offering visitors the chance to experience what it feels like to roll over in a safely constructed vehicle. Here participants were able to learn important safety measures, which cannot be overestimated in today's world when road safety is of great importance. The event has developed enormously since its first edition in 2016: from five to 16 participating organizations, which clearly speaks for the popularity of Blue Light Day.
Families, technology fans and blue light spotters got their money's worth, from the vehicle and equipment show to live demonstrations that demonstrated the various operational techniques. With free entry, the event made it easy to enjoy a fun and educational day with the family.
Blue light organizations in focus
The blue light organizations that were present that day represent an essential part of the German security structure. They are responsible for internal security and security. Think of the fire department, which is responsible for rescuing, extinguishing, recovering and protecting, and the police, whose area of responsibility ranges from the police to the highway police to special helicopter squadrons. But the emergency services also make a crucial contribution to general safety with their rapid medical care in emergencies. Their close cooperation with the fire departments and the police is essential for the smooth functioning of the security architecture. Special communication technologies such as BOS digital radio are used to optimize the exchange between organizations.
At a time when many volunteer organizations are struggling with declining membership numbers, Blue Light Day represents an excellent platform to attract new members and raise awareness of the important tasks of these organizations. The diverse participation activities and offers invited people to engage more actively with the topics of safety and assistance in everyday life.
The positive response and the high number of participants show that interest in the work of the blue light organizations remains unbroken. Another step in the right direction for the safety of our community – here in Wilhelmshaven and beyond. Overall, it can be said that Blue Light Day was once again a complete success in 2025, which was convincing in terms of both content and organization.
