Rose Festival in Wilhelmshaven: Over 2000 visitors enchanted!
Over 2,000 flower lovers gathered in Wilhelmshaven last weekend to celebrate the annual rose festival. The festival took place in the impressive rosarium, which features over 3,000 rose bushes and a variety of rare tree, shrub and perennial species. The event attracted not only garden enthusiasts, but also families and individual visitors who were able to enjoy the splendor of the flowers. [nwzonline] reports that this year the festival had a record number of 32 exhibitors who presented their diverse offerings - from jewelry to leather goods to home and garden items.
The atmosphere in the Rosarium, the only one of its kind in northwest Germany, was unique. The Rosarium offers an oasis of relaxation and represents an ambience that invites visitors to explore the themed gardens designed by Theda Harms-Thiemann. Over 500 varieties of roses bloom here, including rarities such as the green original rose from China and the black rose. In addition, special species such as the handkerchief tree and the Chinese bluebell can be found among the trees. A joint buffet for the exhibitors on Saturday evening provided additional sociable exchange.
Tradition and highlights
Since 2004, the Rose Festival has established itself as an integral part of garden lovers. A highlight this year was the fashion show by the fashion store “Petsilie” from Jever, which was met with enthusiastic spectators. The festival attracts many people every year and has become an important date in Wilhelmshaven's event calendar.
The Rosarium at Neuengrodener Weg 22c is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is open to visitors until the end of October. The garden design is maintained by volunteers and not only offers a view of beautiful roses, but also a romantic setting for various events where dogs are welcome on a leash. The best way to get there is via Friedenstraße/Neuengrodener Weg.
Roses in Germany
Germany offers a variety of rose gardens, which are a popular destination, especially in June during the peak flowering period. The best-known include the Europa Rosarium in Sangerhausen, which houses the largest rose collection in the world, as well as the rose garden in Zweibrücken and the German Rosarium in Dortmund. These gardens each offer unique experiences and have different opening times and entrance fees. A look at the largest rose gardens in Germany illustrates the diversity and importance of these blooming sights.
Whether in the Rosarium Wilhelmshaven or one of the many other rose gardens in Germany - the visit is definitely worth it. The beauty of the flowers and the opportunity to leave everyday life behind make these places a real experience for young and old. So if you want to experience the lilac season and the blooming of the roses, you should definitely plan a trip to a rosarium!
