Ursula Warrings celebrates 95 years: an eventful life in Wilhelmshaven!
Ursula Warrings from Wilhelmshaven has a very special occasion to celebrate today: she turns 95 years old. On October 30, 2023, the sprightly senior citizen looks back on an eventful life. Born Ursula Tanke, she had many positive memories of the turbulent time of the children's deportation during the Second World War. She particularly has fond memories of her stays in Salzburg and Poland. “The experiences with the teachers and the excursions helped me a lot to alleviate my homesickness,” remembers Ursula.
While her brother, who was four years younger, moved to Hamburg early, Ursula stayed in Wilhelmshaven. After training in the office of the Krieger und Sohn food wholesaler, she found her place in the city. In 1948 she met her future husband Johannes, and in 1952 they celebrated an intimate wedding in a small circle. “We often went on motorcycle trips to his home village,” she says.
Family life and neighborhood
The family enjoyed a tranquil childhood on Ackerstrasse, where the neighborhood children could play in the street as there was very little traffic. The family later moved into an officer's apartment on Weserstrasse, where all the children had their own room. Ursula initially worked for the construction company Meyer and Wiesner before moving to the gas and electric plant. She stayed there until her retirement.
An important part of Ursula's life was her passion for knitting: "I had a high-quality knitting machine that I used to make a lot of clothes." After her husband's early death, Ursula became the center of her family. She not only maintained close ties within her family circle, but also good neighbors that continue to this day.
A birthday in the Hofcafé
Today Ursula Warrings is celebrating her special day in a cozy courtyard café, surrounded by lovely people. Her 95 years are an impressive lifetime achievement, whose highlights and experiences she always tells with a smile. Even though the years have passed, her joy of life and contact with her family and neighborhood have remained alive. We wish her a happy birthday and many more years full of beautiful memories!
