Weekend at the Jade: Wilhelmshaven celebrates with a spectacular program!

The “Weekend at the Jade” began with a colorful festival program on July 3, 2025 in Wilhelmshaven. Mayor Carsten Feist and frigate captain Rolf Hoppe ceremoniously opened the event. This annual tradition transforms the city around the large harbor and naval arsenal grounds into a vibrant center full of activities and experiences. Until July 6, 2025, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a lively atmosphere.

How RadioJade reports, the event attracts crowds and expects around 300,000 visitors. The program includes a wide range of offerings: In addition to impressive tours of historic tugs and modern frigates as part of the “Open Ship,” participants can also discover the creations of talented artisans, try out rides and experience more than 70 bands on seven different stages. The musical supporting program is accompanied by, among others, the Marine Music Corps.

A celebration of community

The weekend is not only a celebration of the city's functional diversity, but above all a homage to its soul, as Mayor Feist aptly put it. Despite adverse weather conditions with rain and storms, the enthusiasm of the visitors seemed to be unbroken, which contributed to the festival being a success. Security measures such as the presence of police and emergency services as well as around 200 barriers on the access roads ensure smooth operations and the safety of all guests.

Another highlight will be the big fireworks display on Sunday at 11 p.m., which will light up the night at the end of the celebrations. This tradition attracts families and partygoers alike and is an integral part of the program that has delighted many visitors for years.

Colorful activities for young and old

Those interested can actively participate in the various offers. For example, leisure activities such as Tai Chi and a unique national park adventure trip to the seal beds in the Jade Bay are offered. The little ones don't miss out either: everything from art stands to children's games to culinary delicacies is represented.

According to an analysis by NDR The number of visitors was pleasingly high and testifies to the popularity of the festival. August Desenz, known for his collections after every festival, was able to collect an amount of 450 to 500 euros that day, thus sending another example of the community.

The Wilhelmshaven “Weekend at the Jade” continues its tradition of being a place of encounter, celebration and joy. A worthwhile visit that should not be missing from any calendar!
