HSV women in the relegation battle: Dramatic weeks ahead!

The HSV women are facing a challenging year-end spurt in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga. The club is currently sitting in a relegation zone and urgently needs to collect points to escape before the winter break. After the upcoming game against 1. FC Cologne, the tackles against Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg await. The Hamburg team can look back on a long dry spell - they have not won in seven Bundesliga games, their last triumph dates back to matchday four, when they won 1-0 against Leipzig. Coach Liése Brancao must now draw the right conclusions from this unfortunate situation.

Brancao, who recently completed her UEFA Pro License in Austria, places great importance on the development of her players. Striker Sophie Hillebrand in particular has established herself as a bearer of hope. Not only did she secure an important victory in the DFB Cup, but she also scored a goal in an international match for Austria after just 16 seconds - a record for the fastest goal scored by an Austrian. As NDR reports, the team certainly has potential, as they won a friendly against Cologne 2-0 during the summer preparation, which gives hope for a positive turnaround.

Respect for the opponent

The upcoming opponents are anything but easy. Brancao emphasizes the respect for 1. FC Köln, which has already collected more points this season than in the entire last season. Such a challenge can only be overcome if the entire team, including those who have not been able to prove themselves on the pitch recently, sticks together. The HSV players know what is at stake: only with a win against Cologne can they leave the relegation zone and go into the subsequent games with fresh courage.

Under pressure in the year-end spurt

The season has so far been suboptimal for the HSV women. A look at the match days so far shows that after the home game on December 8th against 1. FC Köln, the games against Bayern Munich (December 14th) and VfL Wolfsburg (December 21st) are on the program. Here are the results of the HSV women so far:

Matchday Date opponent Result
1 09/07/25 VfL Wolfsburg 3:3
2 09/13/25 SGS food 0:0
3 09/19/25 SC Freiburg 2:6
4 9/25/25 RB Leipzig 1:0
5 10/6/25 TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 1:4
6 10/11/25 SV Werder Bremen 0:2
7 10/18/25 Carl Zeiss Jena 1:1
8 02.11.25 Eintracht Frankfurt 0:4
9 05.11.25 Bayer 04 Leverkusen 1:2
10 11/9/25 1. FC Nuremberg 1:2

In these final games of the year, a good performance and, more importantly, a much-needed win over Cologne is necessary. The team will do everything in its power to avoid spending the Christmas period in the relegation zone. The HSV women only have hope that their efforts and preparation will pay off.
