VfL Wolfsburg: Women laugh and suffer in the DFB Cup and EM preparation!
Wolfsburg, Deutschland - In the past few days there have been turbulent developments at VfL Wolfsburg that cause fans to cause excitement. A DFB Cup game against SV Hemelingen is imminent and promises to calm the minds. On August 16, 2025 at 3:30 p.m., the stadium will really get down to business if the team fights for a title again. The first games of the new season are not long in coming.
But not only the gentlemen are active. The VfL women, who are currently preparing for the UEFA Women’s euro, have numerous national players in their ranks. Around half of the team is currently with their national teams to prepare for the upcoming challenges. On June 26th there are exciting test games on the program:
- Netherlands against Finland at 8 p.m.
- Norway meets in Sweden at 6 p.m. (with Justine Kielland, Guro Bergsvand and Thea Bjelde)
- Switzerland plays against the Czech Republic at 6 p.m. (with Smilla Vallotto)
- Australia (with Sharn Freier) measured twice with Slovenia: on June 26th at 1 p.m. and on June 29 at 12 p.m.
defeat in the DFB Cup
While the preparations are starting for the euro, the VfL women also have to digest a bitter defeat. At their last DFB Cup game, the team failed in the quarter-finals against TSG Hoffenheim. With a final score of 0: 1, the Wolfsburg women had to give up, which has been synonymous with the first defeat in the DFB Cup since mid-November 2013. Before this defeat, they had won incredible 52 games in a row and won ten titles, an impressive balance that was now suddenly interrupted, as [ZDF] reported.
The lineup looked like this in the game in question: TSG Hoffenheim relied on goalkeeper Tufekovic, while the defense consisted of Janssens, Cazalla, Doorn and Rankin. Memeti and Diehm gave the midfield engine with Feldkamp and Grabowska. Kössler and Cerci started in the attack. Coach Theodoros Dedes had stopped his team well. On the side of Wolfsburg, Borbe stood in the goal, Hendrich, Mening and Dijkstra in defense as well as Wilms, Huth, Lattwein, Linder and Jonsdottir. Popp and fire were responsible for the gates in the storm, supervised by coach Tommy Stroot. The referee, Karoline Wacker, whistled the controversial duel.
preview of upcoming games
Despite this setback, VfL looks at the upcoming challenges with confidence. On August 22, 2025 there is another game when it comes to Bayer 04 Leverkusen at 2 p.m. in the "Green Au" stadium in Hof. In between there will be a test game against RB Leipzig on July 17, 2025 at 2 p.m. in the stadium at the bathroom in Markranstädt. These games could play an important role in bringing the team back on the right course.
and not to forget: husband VfL legends, Uwe Funke, celebrates his 82nd birthday today. He played 13 years for the club in the 1960s and remains a significant part of VfL history. We wish him all the best!
All in all, there is a lot to be expected for VfL Wolfsburg in the coming weeks. Support your team in these crucial encounters! There are more details under [VfL Wolfsburg] and [ZDF].
