Werder Bremen celebrates: dramatic home win against Wolfsburg!

On November 9, 2025, the Weser Stadium in Bremen was once again the scene of an exciting football game. Werder Bremen celebrated its third home win in a row and turned the match around in stoppage time against VfL Wolfsburg, who continued their negative streak. The game ended 2-1 for the North Germans, with a dramatic finish causing a lot of excitement.

In the first half, Wolfsburg led 1-0 thanks to a goal from Svanberg. But Bremen appeared unimpressed and fought their way back into the game after the break. More than two minutes into normal time, Stage equalized with a header before Mbangula scored the winning goal in the last minute of injury time from a cross from Sugawara. The goal secretly came from a failed overhead kick by Boniface.

Atmospheric environment and special honor

Before kick-off, there was a touching choreography by the Werder fans in honor of the late Max Lorenz, which further fueled the emotional atmosphere in the stadium. Working fans and players were impressed by the collective remembrance.

Bremen were strong in defence, having not conceded a goal in six of their last eight home games. With this win, Werder Bremen remains in 9th place in the table with a total of 12 points. In contrast, Wolfsburg, under the leadership of coach Horst Steffen, has now lost five of its last six Bundesliga games and shows a clear need for reform.

Steffen made some changes to the starting lineup before the game, bringing Nijnmah and Topp into the team, but this did not prove effective. Despite Wolfsburg's historic record of scoring 97 goals against Bremen, more than against any other Bundesliga club, Wolfsburg's current form clearly shows that the pressure is increasing.

Bremen, on the other hand, seem to be on the right track and can build on their home strength. After this furious game it will be seen whether they can carry this momentum into the next matches.
