She-Wolves want revenge: VfL meets Bayern on October 11th!

Football fans in Wolfsburg, watch out! On Saturday, October 11th, a thrilling duel awaits us in the Volkswagen Arena: The Wolves from VfL Wolfsburg welcome FC Bayern Munich for a league game on the 6th matchday of the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga. Kick-off is at 3 p.m. and the anticipation is already palpable. Advance sales for this top game begin on Thursday, September 4th at 9:45 a.m., and tickets are available via the Wölfe shop, the fan shop in the fan house and in the service center.

The encounter will be particularly exciting because the she-wolves have the chance to take revenge for the bitter 2:4 defeat in the Google Pixel Supercup. Last season, the hosts triumphed 2-0 against Munich in front of over 17,000 spectators. The attendance record for this encounter is an impressive 24,437 fans from the 2023/2024 season. A sign that interest in women's football is growing strongly in the region.

Challenges for the she-wolves

But not everything is going smoothly for the she-wolves. In the last meeting between the two teams, which took place on March 23, 2024, Bayern clearly won the duel 4-0. This meant they extended their lead over Wolfsburg to seven points and underlined their dominance by being unbeaten in 34 league games. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, had to contend with injury concerns as DFB captain Alexandra Popp was unable to play.

The pressure is heavy on VfL coach Tommy Stroot, who announced before the last meeting that his team wanted to put pressure on Bayern. Despite all their efforts, Wolfsburg was unable to break through Bayern's strong defense. A missed chance by Sveindis Jonsdottir put the Wolves behind, which proved fatal in the second half.

Growth of women's football

The Bundesliga will also be expanded from twelve to 14 teams in the coming season, which could give the competition additional dynamism. Viewer numbers are increasing, and the broadcasts are becoming increasingly popular even on free TV. The last top game between Wolfsburg and Bayern even achieved a record reach of 2.04 million viewers on ARD.

Further information about the upcoming game can be found on the VfL Wolfsburg, n-tv and Sportschau websites: VfL Wolfsburg, n-tv and Sports show.
