Wolfsburg U19 triumphs in the friendly: 2-1 against Heracles U21!

There was an exciting duel on the pitch last weekend when the U19s of VfL Wolfsburg played a friendly against the U21s of Twente Heracles. The Wolfsburg talents showed a strong performance and ultimately won 2-1. The Green-Whites were particularly strong in the first half and restricted the guests in their own goal, which was reflected in the two goals from Bruno Katz and Karlo Simic. Katz's goal came in the 11th minute when he took advantage of a mistake in the away defense. Just 23 minutes later, Simic put the ball into the net, giving them a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.

But even after the break, Wolfsburg remained in control. Goalkeeper Zielinski was an important source of support in the first half, including parrying a dangerous shot in the 19th minute and directing a long-range shot over the crossbar. In the second half, VfL changed their entire lineup, but this did not affect the flow of the game. Marko Mandity had a great opportunity to increase the score to 3-0 in the 47th minute, but was denied by the Heracles goalkeeper.

The guests are catching up

The guests gained hope in the 60th minute when Mauro Smit scored from a corner and reduced the score to 2-1. But Wolfsburg defended with concentration in the last 25 minutes and didn't give the guests any further chances. Carl-Anton Sticherling in particular created a few opportunities, but was unable to put the ball in the box. In the end, VfL was able to bring the narrow lead to the finish and celebrated the victory.

Looking at the season

The U19s of VfL Wolfsburg are not only in convincing form in the test match. The young guns can also look forward to an interesting 2025/26 season in league play. The team has already played a few games, including a home game against Duisburg, which was won 3-0 and had an average attendance of 110. On October 4th, the team unfortunately lost 5-1 to Bayer Leverkusen's U19s, which underlines the training performance and the formations available.

The round of 16 against Hoffenheim will take place on November 9th, 2025, another highlight that the fans are eagerly awaiting. The aim here is to carry the momentum from the test matches and show the performance on the pitch. The current table situation in the DFB youth league makes it clear that VfL Wolfsburg U19 is very popular and the stars of tomorrow are already in the starting blocks.

The young Wolfsburg team are well prepared for the new challenges, and their improving form gives hope that they can also have a lasting influence on events in the league. It definitely takes a good hand!
