Brilliant champion mares inspire at the Holstein Association Mare Show!

The Holsteiner Association's traditional mare show took place today at Herbert-Blöcker-Platz in Elmshorn. In brilliant weather, 35 first-class mares presented themselves, having qualified for this renowned event through a registration tour. The big question that day was: Who will be the winning mare?

The answer was immediately provided by the majestic Pippi-Lotta, a daughter of Cascadello I, who impressed the jury with her outstanding gaits and perfect posture. Breeder and owner Kirsten Roll from Struvenhütten can be happy about this great award. At just three years old, Pippi-Lotta is already showing promising characteristics such as very good hooves and a correct foundation - this puts her in the ranks of the best Holsteiner mares. Her mother Carlotta, who was the reserve champion mare in Elmshorn and is a half-sister to international eventing horses, contributes to the high quality of the blood. [Equestrian Shows] reports that strain 223B has a long history of breeding.

Reserve champions and the Holstein mare of the year

The first reserve victory went to Papagena (Chinchero x Unlimited), who was equally impressive and stood out for her “uphill form”. The breeder and owner is Avora Pferde GmbH & Co. in Welmbüttel, and Papagena achieved an outstanding grade of 8.93 in the mare test. Peaches I (Cascadello I x Aljano), bred and owned by Ina Schmausser from Amberg, also showed herself to be a valuable mare with a strong frame and a lot of strength and received the second reserve victory.

In the area of dressage mares, Pia-Lotta (Va Bene x Ampère) won, shining with her physical harmony and a high-class grade of 9.1. The second dressage reserve champion Pioretta (For Romance x Krack C), bred by Gerd Ohlsen from Oevenum/Föhr and owned by Lorenz Momsen from Emmelsbüll, was also able to convince the jury.

However, the “Holsteiner Mare of the Year” award was particularly deserving to Touch of Class (Lux Z x Capitol I), which shines with a track record of 27 stars for its own and offspring achievements. The breeder is the De Margaretha Hoeve stable from the Netherlands, and Julius-Peter Sinnack is the proud owner of this exquisite mare.

Holstein horse days and supporting program

But the focus wasn't just on the mares. The Holstein Horse Days, which took place from June 8th to 11th, offered a varied program that ranged from dressage tests to a foal auction. 21 foals went under the hammer, including top pedigrees from prominent sires such as Crack and Zirocco Blue. [Spring-Reiter] points out that this auction contributed to the sale of the foals on Saturday, June 10th, with a starting auction price of 4:30 p.m.

The event also featured an entertaining football tournament under the motto “Kickers meet Holstein”, where the winners were given food ribbons worth a total of 600 euros. The audience was invited to celebrate the identity of the upcoming Holstein talents, and entry to the events was free. The festival was rounded off with a ceremonial opening of the “Holstein Mare of the Year” on Sunday.

The next association mare show will take place as part of the Holstein Horse Days from June 13th to 16th, 2024. The best Holstein mares born in 2020 and 2021 already have the opportunity to qualify through the registration dates in Schleswig-Holstein. A catalog with the selection of possible participants will be available digitally. [Holsteiner Verband] promises to present the breeding successes equally impressively next year.
