In northern Germany, travelers can expect some restrictions on train traffic today, November 5, 2025. Deutsche Bahn has temporarily taken the route between Hamburg Central Station and Elmshorn out of service due to urgent repairs to a switch. This construction project has a direct impact on several regional trains that run as scheduled between these two cities.
But what does that actually mean for travelers? The trains on the lines RE 7 (Flensburg/Kiel Hbf – Hamburg Hbf) and RE 70 (Kiel Hbf – Hamburg Hbf) now end or begin in Hamburg-Altona. The stops in Hamburg Hbf and Hamburg Dammtor will be canceled during the disruption. Travelers are therefore urged to alternatively use the S-Bahn to and from Hamburg-Altona and bus line 112 from Hamburg Dammtor. These changes could increase travel time by up to 30 minutes, which could pose an additional challenge, especially for commuters.
