Massive protests in Flensburg against the AfD on Saturday!
In Flensburg, the upcoming demonstration against the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is causing plenty of talk. The city does not have an AfD representative in the council, making it the only independent city in Schleswig-Holstein without one. In the last federal election, however, the AfD received the most second votes in 14 polling stations and achieved double-digit results for the first time. This raises the question of what the mood is within the city and whether the planned commitment can make a difference. Protest actions are now scheduled for Saturday. In the morning from 9.30 a.m., left-wing groups are active on Nordermarkt to mobilize against the AfD stand. In the afternoon, a rally entitled “Hope shines bright” is expected at the Südermarkt at 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the weather in Flensburg is cold and sunny, with temperatures between -3 and 2 degrees. This is certainly drawing many onto the streets, even though the conditions are frigid.
Traffic delays and whale visits
The traffic situation is also tense. There will be partial and full closures on the B200 and on the Friedheim and Fritz-Reuter-Weg streets, which will affect the flow of mobility in the city. But there's not just something going on on the streets; There are also interesting moments in nature. A young fin whale, which is around 8 meters long, regularly appears in the Flensburg Fjord, presumably hunting for herring. Fin whales do not normally come to the fjord, but can be found further north off Norway, making this sight particularly remarkable.
But the people of Flensburg are not only dominated by political disputes and whale watching. Things are also simmering on the international stage. Greenland is currently being rocked by protests after US President Trump indicated he wanted to annex the country. Greenland Prime Minister Egede called this statement completely unacceptable and citizens gathered in Nuuk to demand their freedom. The “Demokraatit” party, which won the last parliamentary election, supports these protests with the motto “Our country. Our choice. Our freedom”, as Deutschlandfunk reported.
