Construction site chaos in Kiel: Where patience is now required!
A lot is happening in Kiel at the moment, because the city has opened up to modernize its traffic infrastructure thoroughly. A look at the current construction sites shows that many roads and paths are being planned or renovated. It is particularly interesting that the city is striving for a good knack for the equality of all road users in the future, says Mobility Director Alke Voß in a report of the Kiel Magazins .
Currently there are several construction sites in Kiel that ensure traffic restrictions. On Eichenbergskamp, for example, two connecting lines for rainwater are still being worked on. Here the street between Langensaal and Heikendorfer Weg must be completely blocked, but pedestrians can happen. The road will also be renovated in Haßbergstrasse in Kiel-Russee until June 29, 2025. complications from height controls
Special attention deserves the old Lübeck Chaussee, where the Deutsche Bahn Railway Bridges renewed. There are partial closures here, and only one lane strip remains available. A digital height control was installed in order to identify oversized vehicles at an early stage and to ask them to turn if necessary, which can lead to delays in times of high traffic. Traffic signs and LED boards inform the drivers about these measures, while KVG, the police and the road traffic authority are automatically informed when the height control is triggered.
The planned renovation measures aim to safely master the high traffic volume and at the same time increase the attractiveness of Kiel. The city has an ambitious projects that stand for a contemporary infrastructure so that all road users get equally and safely from A to B.
Other central measures are an exchange and a greening of the bus stops at the main train station, the complete renovation of the Westring and the renewal of the road cover on Stresemannplatz, all of which are due from July 2025.
With these construction work, Kiel shows that they have a good sense of the challenges and that they are working on a modern and functioning traffic infrastructure. Of course, the city will continue to provide regular information about the course of the construction sites.
